Great Smoky Mountains National Park
America’s most visited National Park, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, near Gatlinburg TN, straddles the state line between Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. Established in 1934, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park contains over 800 miles of hiking and backpacking trails, including the Appalachian Trail. A wide variety of wildlife can been seen, including many Black Bears and White Tailed Deer.

Cades Cove
Cades Cove is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Great Smokies National Park. The 11 mile one-way loop road circles around inside the cove’s sheltered valley. Turn right a the Park’s Visitors Center near Gatlinburg TN. The drive is about one hour. Cades Cove offers the best wildlife viewing in the National Park. White-tailed deer, black bear, coyote, ground hog, turkey, raccoon, skunk are often easy to spot. Overnight camping is offered at the Cade Cove’s park entrance.

Appalachian National Scenic Trail
The Appalachian National Scenic Trail runs through The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, at the summit, where it crosses from Eastern Tennessee into Western North Carolina. The Appalachian Trail is a 2,181-mile long hiking and backpacking trail, crossing 14 eastern states, from Maine’s Mount Katahdin to Georgia’s Springer Mountain.
