Clingmans Dome, at 6,643 ft. is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and in the State of Tennessee. It is the third highest point in the Appalachian Mountains. Clingmans Dome is a very popular Great Smoky Mountains National Park attraction with spectacular vistas for those willing to climb the half mile walk to the top of the lookout tower. On a clear day you can see for over 100 miles.

Clingmans Dome is open year-round, but the road leading up to it is closed from Dec, 1 - Mar. 31. Clouds, precipitation, and cold temperatures reveal the hostile environment atop Clingmans Dome. There are several hiking trails that start at Clingmans dome parking area, including the Appalachian Trail, which crosses Clingmans Dome.
